Simonton. Topics include the arrest of slaves (1862 March 12), officer of the day, commands, furloughs, disciplinary rules, guard duty, the battle of Secessionville (1862 June 17), and courts martial (1862 Aug. 19) for the Eutaw Battalion. A letter (1863) from Lieutenant [James A.] Ross regimental secretary at James Island to Captain Taliaferro concerns orders for the positioning of "index boards" [sign?] at the main cross roads on James Island.
